Pastoral Council exists in the pastoral responsibility for the life and mission of the Church. It shares in the responsibility for the pastoral care of the Parish in collaboration with the Pastor and staff. While its members may be actively engaged in various ministries of the Parish, as a council it is a consultative body, which makes recommendations to the Pastor regarding the life and mission of the Parish community.
With the Pastor and staff, the Pastoral Council has a special obligation in the task of pastoral planning. It sets the direction for the Parish by focusing on the Parish's mission statement and organizing a plan to carry out that mission. It plans, monitors progress, analyses and prioritizes needs and develops goals related to meeting those needs. The Pastoral Council may also establish committees to implement these goals.
Pastoral Council elections are held in June of each year. Each council member serves a three-year term of office, which can be followed by a second three-year term if re-elected. Every May, parishioners will nominate those they believe would be qualified candidates for Parish Pastoral Council. Those candidates who accept the nomination will run in the Parish-wide election in June.
Meetings are held monthly and are open to all parishioners of St. Nicholas Catholic Church with advance notice.
Please call the parish office at 952-461-2403 if you would like contact information for any one of our Pastoral Council members.
