EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION (EMHC)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist in the distribution of Holy Communion when large numbers or other pastoral considerations warrant. At Saint Nicholas, ordinarily this is only at Christmas, Easter, and large weddings and funerals. EMHCs may also assist in bringing Holy Communion to individuals who are unable to attend Mass (see the parish website - Homebound Ministry - for additional information). An EMHC may also be trained to expose and repose the Holy Eucharist in our Adoration Chapel.
EMHCs must be Catholics, whose qualities of Christian Life, faith and morals recommend them. They must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, be at least sixteen years of age and participate regularly in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church. They should evidence devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. If the EMHC is married, the marriage must be one recognized by the Church. [See Pope Paul VI in his instruction, Immensae caritatis, “On Facilitating Reception of Communion in Certain Circumstances,” issued January 29, 1973.]

HOMEBOUND MINISTRY
Bring the light and grace of Jesus Christ to those who are confined to their home or healthcare facility. Members of our Homebound Ministry are available to bring Holy Communion to those who are unable to attend Mass (see the parish website - Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion – for additional information). Our priest is also available to make pastoral visits.
Homebound Ministers are generally available to distribute Holy Communion within a few hours after Mass is offered at Saint Nicholas or by appointment.
Please note that because of privacy laws, healthcare facilities and hospitals do not call the parish if a parishioner has been admitted or if a person’s condition has worsened. We must rely on family members and friends to keep us informed.
Please contact the parish office if you would like to be part of the Homebound Ministry team.
